Salesians in Russia
Our founder, Don Bosco, believed that he could change the world through education which inspires young people at the beginning of the 21st century. Our congregation carries out a wide range of pastoral and educational activities in more than 130 countries, including Russia, where priests, nuns, Salesian Cooperators and lay volunteers who have dedicated their lives in serving God through the Salesian vocation. The geography of Salesian houses in Russia is extensive in its geographical remoteness. Salesians work in Moscow, Leningrad Region (Moscow, Russia), Gatchina, Rostov-on-Don, and in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (Aldan and Yakutsk).
In Russia, Salesian family is represented by the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christian (FMA), and Salesian Cooperators (ASC). In addition to the geographical diversity of our houses, they have a wide range of activities.
MOSCOW
In Moscow, Salesians carry out their pastoral activities in the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the basement of the cathedral there is a youth center – Oratory of St. John Bosco." The purpose of the Oratory is to educate them to be good Christians and honest citizens. The oratory is designed to help children and young people develop and grow through group prayer, study, work and leisure. In addition to the Salesians, the Daughter of the Mary Help of Christians collaborate in the oratory and in the church.

Salesians also carry out their activities in the charitable children's and youth educational center named after St. John Bosco. It is a non-profitable organization whose employees help children from socially disadvantaged and socially vulnerable families.

GATCHINA
Salesian activity in Gatchina began with the opening of a printing school in 1993, a year later an elementary business school was opened. On weekends, oratory was organized for children and young people. At the moment, Salesians are active in the oratory and serve in the parish of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Carmel.

REPUBLIC OF SAKHA (YAKUTIA)
The most remote part of Russia where Salesian missionaries carry out their mission is Sakha Republic.
Missionary work is carried out by Salesians and missionary volunteer and it is entrusted to Slovakian province.
The priority of the Salesian community in Yakutia is to educate, and organize cultural and educational projects for children and young people. The current activities are educational activities with children from disadvantaged and low-income families, as well as work with abandoned children and young people from children's educational institutions.
Activities of Salesians in Yakutia are also aimed at establishing and developing intercultural and interreligious dialogue. Salesians organize religious and educational meetings with indigenous peoples who have converted to the Catholic faith, and prepare them for the reception of the holy sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church, such as baptism, confirmation, communion, and marriage.
Geographically, the Salesian centers are located in the cities of Aldan and Yakutsk.
ALDAN
In the city of Aldan, we have a complex which has an oratory and a chapel. In the basement of the house we have an oratory for children and young people. Various educational and cultural projects are part of the oratory. In the Complex, we have a chapel dedicated to St.Nicholas for joint prayer and divine services. Salesians in Aldan also offer various educational projects for young people and adults, such as matrimonial and parenting courses. Salesians also teach various disciplines in the city's schools.
Since 1994, Salesians have been carrying out missionary activities in the remote settlements of the republic: Tommot, Chagda, Kutana, Belkachi, Ugoyan, Bolshoy Nimnyr etc. Various youth meetings and children's summer camps are organized for the catechization of young people from the indigenous population of the republic. From 1992 to the present time, regular missionary trips are carried out to the village of Khatystyr, which is a branch of the Catholic parish located in the city of Aldan.

YAKUTSK
In Yakutsk, we have a Youth centre. In the first floor we have an Oratory for children and youth. In the Oratory, there are various cultural, educational programs for children and youth of the city. Various courses are organized for children, young people and adults. In addition to the Youth centre in Yakutsk, we have the only Roman Catholic church in the republic dedicated to the Holy Trinity, which is the center of the spiritual life of the catholic faithful of the capital of the republic. The church also houses the only organ in the whole republic and organ concerts are regularly being held in the church. Salesians also carry out work in collaboration with some educational institutions of the city and of the entire district. Salesians in Yakutsk also carry missionary activities in remote towns and cities in the northern part of the republic.
